Chernivu police in northern Ukraine said an American was among the civilian victims of Russian shelling this morning.
CNN reported that the American killed was James Whitney Hill, a native of Minnesota, who was born in 1954, an aide to the Ukrainian Interior Minister said.
Governor Viacheslav Chaus Chernivu said 53 civilians had been killed in Russian attacks in the past 24 hours in the area.
But Russia denies the bombings aimed at civilians.
