Samsung Electronics introduced the Galaxy A series of entry-level smartphones. By strengthening the linkage with Galaxy devices, it expanded the Galaxy ecosystem and aimed at the global smartphone market in earnest.
Samsung Electronics held the Samsung Galaxy A Event 2022 event at 11 pm on the 17th and unveiled the Galaxy A series. This is the second time since last year that Samsung Electronics held a public event for a low-end model rather than a flagship model. This means that the importance of entry-level models has grown in the global smartphone market. This event was broadcast live in portrait mode for the first time reflecting the video viewing culture of the MZ generation.
There are two types of Galaxy A series, the Galaxy A53 5G and the Galaxy A33 5G. The price is 599,500 won and 494,000 won, respectively.
Roh Tae-moon, president of Samsung Electronics MX business division, said that everyone should be able to enjoy superior mobile technology in their daily life.
The most striking feature of the Galaxy A series is the AI function. The Galaxy A series equipped with a 5nm processor can take up to 12 photos in the night mode with AI technology, and take bright night photos with minimal noise through synthesis.
The frame rate is automatically adjusted even when shooting video in low-light conditions. In addition, it provides a photo remaster function that corrects low-quality or old photos.
An AI eraser that can remove unnecessary objects photographed together is also installed for the first time in the Galaxy A series.
The camera function has also been strengthened. The Galaxy A53 is equipped with a 64-megapixel primary camera with OIS, a rear quad-camera, and a 32-megapixel front camera. The Galaxy A33 is equipped with a 13-megapixel camera on the front, along with a quad-camera including a 48-megapixel primary camera with OIS on the back. Samsung Electronics explains that by applying an intelligent algorithm, it displays clear details even in bright sunlight outdoors.
The Galaxy A53 and Galaxy A33 are equipped with 6.5-inch and 6.4-inch super AMOLED displays, respectively. Each supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and a refresh rate of 90Hz, and both models are equipped with a 5000mAh large-capacity battery. In addition, it is equipped with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and supports IP67 rating for water and dust resistance to ensure durability.
The Galaxy ecosystem has been strengthened. 360 audio technology, which provides 3D sound in conjunction with the Galaxy Buds, is applied, and through connection with Windows, you can copy, paste, and transfer files from a smartphone to contents from a laptop computer.
The A-series will be launched in the global market from next month. In Korea, the A53 model will be officially released on April 1. Prior to the release, the pre-sale will be held for 7 days from the 18th to the 24th.
The A53 model is available in three colors, △Awesome Blue, △Awesome Black, and △Awesome White. The domestic release date of the A33 has yet to be determined.
Apple also introduced the iPhone SE3, a 5G low-end smartphone, on the 9th and started pre-sale on the same day as Samsung Electronics A53, and it is expected to compete in earnest. The reason why Samsung and Apple are releasing mid- to low-end smartphone lineups one after another is interpreted as targeting emerging countries where demand for mid-to-low-end smartphones is active, such as India and Southeast Asia.
Among them, Samsung Electronics Galaxy A series is considered to be the main product in the global smartphone market. According to Omdia, a market research company, Samsung Electronics Galaxy A12 ranks first with 51.8 million units as the best-selling smartphone last year. Galaxy A02 also ranked 10th with 18.3 million units. The industry believes that the success of Galaxy A is more important than ever. As 5G smartphones are expected to account for the majority of 54.1% of the global smartphone sales, competition from Chinese manufacturers, which is a strong entry-level model, as well as Apple is expected to intensify.
