Reporter Kang Min-kyung = Reuters reported on the 17th that Samsung Electronics won the appeal after breaking the original ruling that banned the sale of 61 types of smartphones in Russia.
According to the news agency, Samsung Electronics lawyer said that Samsung Electronics won the appeal.
As a result, Samsung Electronics will not be restricted from selling smartphones in Russia.
However, after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Samsung Electronics has already announced that it will not ship devices to Russia for geopolitical reasons.
In July last year, Swiss company Scwin SA filed a lawsuit in a Russian court accusing Samsung Electronics of using its mobile payment service technology without permission. Accordingly, the Moscow Arbitration Court ruled in favor of the plaintiff.
According to the ruling, Russian authorities have banned the sale of Samsung smartphones equipped with Samsung Pay in Russia since October last year. A total of 61 smartphones from Samsung Electronics, including the Galaxy Z Flip, Z Folder, S21, and J5, were banned from selling.
According to market research firm Counterpoint, in the fourth quarter of last year, Samsung Electronics ranked first in the Russian smartphone market with a 30% share. It was followed by Xiaomi and Apple.
Apple has also suspended operations in Russia following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
