Meta Prohibition of Commercial Activities in Russia A Russian court ruled that Meta, which operates social network services Facebook and Instagram, as an “extremist” organization, bans business activities.
According to multiple foreign media such as the Moscow Times and Interfax News on the 21st, the Moscow Tverskoy Court decided to accept the prosecutions request to suspend meta activities.
This judgment takes effect immediately. As a result, Meta will not be able to conduct commercial activities or open new branches in Russia in the future. However, since Metas messenger platform WhatsApp is not an open service, it can still be used in Russia. The meta was accused of extremist activity for allowing content that incites conflict and violence against Russia.
Recently, the meta decided to allow provocative content such as “must die” targeting Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian President Alexander Lukasenko. The Russian intelligence agency, the Federal Security Service, accused Mehta of acting against Russian interests, and Russian prosecutors also pointed out that it was an act that incites hatred and hostility.
