[Digital Daily Correspondent Choi Min] Korean webtoons are advancing to France.
Kakao Piccoma announced on the 18th that Piccoma, a comprehensive digital comics platform, started its official service in France on the 17th.
Before the French service, Kakao Piccoma established a platform launch strategy optimized for the local area based on analysis of local culture, content usage, lifestyle, etc. France is known for its rapid growth in the digital comics market and a high preference for Japanese manga. Recently, the recognition and popularity of Korean webtoons have been steadily rising.
The strength of Piccoma is that it serves both Japanese manga and Korean webtoons, each with distinct characteristics. Many Japanese mangas and popular Korean webtoons that have not been released in France were put into the lineup of works, and efforts were made to service works that reflect the tastes of local users.
Piccoma introduces a wait-and-free business model that allows users to experience content optimized for the digital environment.
Kakao Piccoma completed the establishment of ‘Pickoma Europe’ in September last year and appointed Kim Hyung-rae as CEO. CEO Kim Hyung-rae served as the chief operating officer at Delitoon SAS, the first digital comics platform in Europe, and is evaluated as an expert in the local digital content industry.
CEO Kim said, “France Piccoma will continue to provide fresh works of various genres to satisfy users’ diverse tastes and delicate needs. I will,” he said.
Meanwhile, this year, Kakao Piccoma plans to solidify its No. 1 platform position and diversify its business model in Japan by upgrading its services, such as competitive content supply and demand including original intellectual property, and a more sophisticated personalized recommendation algorithm. France Piccoma can be found through the Android app, and will provide an iOS app and web service in the first half of this year.
