Original title: intelligent driving “anxious waiting” 5g technology upgrade
A poster of BYD shows “Han the world’s first mass production vehicle equipped with Huawei 5g technology”, which has aroused great concern of the industry. Does this indicate that the vehicle with 5g communication capability has entered the mass production stage? Although the construction of 5g is in full swing and the transformation of its infrastructure is progressing steadily, can it support 5g vehicles on the road?
All kinds of discussions point to the fact that in the past century, the traditional automobile, which has developed along the refinement of mechanical mechanism, has ushered in disruptive technological upgrading and become a pioneer in the transformation of transportation mode.
5g cars start mass production
Google has put forward the concept of “driverless” for more than 10 years, but intelligent driving is fully commercialized, waiting for 5g infrastructure construction to continue.
Chen Xiaobing, member of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese people’s Political Consultative Conference and senior analyst in the automobile industry, said that intelligent driving needs the support of four major technical systems: perception (road condition), cognition (environment), (AI) decision-making and (vehicle) control.
Chen Xiaobing said: “optimistically, in addition to the cognitive system is still waiting for 5g connection, other systems are becoming more and more mature. With the continuous improvement of 5g business and network environment, the automotive industry is particularly concerned, because 5g is the primary condition for the commercialization of intelligent driving. For example, among the many technical features of 5g, the theoretical delay of 1 millisecond is the necessary ability of intelligent driving, which enables the instantaneous sharing of information between vehicles and infrastructure. “
Just as smart phones need baseband chips and RF components to connect with the network, smart cars also need to be realized through cellular communication module and V2V module.
In 2015, 3GPP (Organization for Standardization) launched the research on c-v2x (cellular Internet of vehicles) standard based on 4G LTE. When c-v2x smoothly evolves to 5g v2x, the “Internet of vehicles” connecting vehicles, vehicles and people, vehicles and road infrastructure enriches more imagination space of intelligent Internet, intelligent transportation, automatic driving and other scenes.
In April 2019, Huawei demonstrated the world’s first 5g vehicle module mh5000, highly integrated vehicle road collaborative c-v2x technology. BYD “Han”, which is expected to be launched in June, is equipped with this module.
Chen Xiaobing believes that the symbolic significance of this incident is that the 5g capable cars have begun to enter the stage of mass production. Although 5g is still in the network, Huawei’s 5g vehicle module supports a smooth transition from 4.5g to 5g, and the R & D investment of vehicle enterprises can be protected to the greatest extent.
Chen Xiaobing stressed that the existing 5g vehicles are still in the primary stage of development, staying in the shallow stage of vehicle engine application, and have not yet been able to make full use of the efficiency of 5g. The real intelligent connected vehicle is the place where 5g technology can be used.
However, it still needs the unprecedented complex industrial chain to work together to solve the problem of “standardization”. The lack of standards and “going their own way” have always been a major obstacle to the development of the Internet of vehicles.
On May 12, the Ministry of industry and information technology explicitly deployed the annual standardization work of 5g application and Internet of vehicles for the first time in the “key points for standardization work of industrial communication industry in 2020” (hereinafter referred to as “key points”).
Automobile is the AI cell of Intelligent Transportation
5g not only reposes the expectation of automobile enterprises to increase industrial added value, but also points to the current urban traffic management and the construction of future intelligent traffic scene. As Baidu chairman Robin Li said, “transportation development in China is ushering in a major historical opportunity. Artificial intelligence, 5G and other new technologies have become a new engine for the development of intelligent transportation.”
Dr. Dai Yifan, director of the intelligent networked automobile center of Suzhou automobile Research Institute of Tsinghua University and general manager of Jiangsu intelligent networked automobile innovation center, said: “as a land vehicle of the city, automobile undertakes the task of the vast majority of people and commodity circulation. Intelligent networked vehicles and transportation will become the soul of the new smart city and promote the harmonious and healthy development of people, vehicles, roads and cities. “
Professor Li Keqiang, director of the State Key Laboratory of automobile safety and energy saving of Tsinghua University and chief scientist of the national intelligent networked automobile innovation center, said that the emergence of intelligent and networked automobile technology will bring a major revolution to the automobile industry, and even a new traffic mode and system.
During this year’s two sessions, Internet technology companies, deputies to the National People’s Congress and members of the Chinese people’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in the automotive industry have made suggestions and suggestions for promoting the development of intelligent Internet connected vehicles and transportation. Xu Heyi, Secretary of the Party committee and chairman of BAIC group, pointed out that it is necessary to integrate automobile, artificial intelligence and urban development, so as to build intelligent automobile into a new infrastructure of modern intelligent city and become the AI cell of intelligent city.
In order to accelerate the development of 5g construction, policies have been issued intensively from ministries to local governments, and “5g + Internet of vehicles” has been highlighted and mentioned many times.
In March this year, the national development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of industry and information technology jointly issued the notice on organizing and implementing the new infrastructure construction project (broadband network and 5g field) in 2020, which listed “large scale verification and application of 5g based vehicle road collaborative Internet of vehicles” as one of the seven 5g innovative application promotion projects; the Ministry of industry and information technology issued the notice on promoting the accelerated development of 5g The notice clearly proposes to promote the integration of 5g + Internet of vehicles into the communication standards and protocols of smart city and intelligent transportation construction.
Professor Li Keqiang said that Intemet has become a strategic commanding point to drive the development of AI, information communication, big data and cloud computing. Developed countries have formed the first mover advantage of Intemet by formulating national strategies and strengthening departmental cooperation. China must base itself on the requirements of high-tech and industrial development, and combine with the national conditions to create a Chinese plan for the innovative development of intelligent networked vehicles.
