Facebooks parent company Metaplatform CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced that he will introduce the non-fungible token, a virtual asset that is attracting attention as an investment target, to Instagram.
According to Bloomberg News, CEO Zuckerberg recently announced at South by Southwest, a film, media and music festival in Austin, Texas, that users could soon create NFTs on Instagram.
“Were working on bringing NFT to Instagram in the near future,” Zuckerberg said in a speech on the theme of the metaverse. “Im not ready to announce today what exactly that will be.”
Business magazine Fortune reported that Zuckerberg said he hoped to be able to make NFT costumes for avatars to be used in the metaverse.
He added, however, that in order to do this, many technical problems must be addressed first.
Prior to this, the Financial Times reported that Meta opened an NFT marketplace in January and discussed ways for users to create and sell it, but it was still in its infancy.
