US President Joe Biden will attend the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and European Union summits scheduled for each in Brussels, Belgium on the 24th, AFP and Reuters reported.
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said on social media that “a special summit was convened at NATO headquarters on the 24th.” We will discuss further strengthening.”
“At this critical time, North America and Europe must continue to unite,” Stoltenberg added.
An EU official said President Biden would also attend the EU summit scheduled for Brussels on the same day as the NATO special summit.
AFP reported that the gathering of President Biden and the leaders of the EUs 27 member states would underscore the coordinated Wests response to Russias invasion of Ukraine.
NATO, which consists of 30 countries, and the EU, which consists of 27 countries, have 21 member states in common.
Among EU member states that are not members of NATO are Sweden, Finland, Austria, Cyprus, Malta and Ireland.
