According to CNN on the 17th, World Health Organization Secretary-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus made this statement at a meeting of the United Nations Security Council on Ukraine on the same day. Todays meeting was held via video.
Ghebreyesus said Russia had attacked Ukrainian medical facilities at least 43 times. It said 12 people were killed and 34 were injured. It is reported that some of the casualties include medical workers. He criticized the attack on health care as a violation of international humanitarian law.
He also raised concerns about the novel coronavirus infection. He said the number of unconfirmed infections could be significant, especially as testing rates have declined since the start of the dispute.
Russia had invaded Ukraine on the 24th of last month. Since then, there have been reports of attacks on obstetrics and gynecology hospitals and cancer hospitals. In particular, in Mariupol, where long-term isolation continues, there have been reports that the Russian military is holding residents hostage in hospitals.
