The government announced on the 16th that the number of new corona19 confirmed cases decreased by more than 40,000 compared to the total number of people counted and announced by local governments on the afternoon of the previous day because of a problem with the rapid antigen test positive counting system. The number of confirmed cases that were omitted due to system problems is expected to be included in the number of confirmed cases to be announced on the 17th.
Jung Woo-jin, head of the quarantine system operation team at the Central Quarantine Countermeasures Headquarters, explained in a non-face-to-face back briefing that “there was a functional problem in the system.”
Team leader Jeong said, “In the process of receiving the right to confirm positive for rapid antigen at a medical institution, there were cases where the address was entered incorrectly and it was not possible to assign the competent public health center. It has been confirmed,” he explained.
Team leader Jeong said, “I cannot say in detail the number of confirmed cases that have been omitted, but the statistics of confirmed cases that were not reflected in the statistics as of 00:00 that day are counted as the statistics of the next day.” said Team leader Jeong also said, “The problem of not being confirmed as a confirmed person due to an address error was urgently reflected in system improvement by finding a way.”
Earlier, Bang Daebon announced that there were 407,741 new confirmed cases as of 00:00 on the same day. However, the combined number of new confirmed cases in local governments across the country, including Seoul, on the previous day had already exceeded 440,000 as of 9:00 PM on the 15th, and exceeded 450,000 as of 10:00 PM.
The government has been explaining that “statistics based on 0 o’clock may be partially different due to differences in local government statistics and the time of the counting,” but this was the first time that such a big difference had occurred. As a result, the number of confirmed cases skyrocketed, raising questions about whether there was a problem with the governments number of confirmed cases.
